Exhibitions of artifacts from the tomb of Tutankhamun
Imagine finding incredible ancient treasures like those from Tutankhamun's tomb. The tomb was discovered between 1922 and 1927. This amazing find created huge global interest in ancient Egypt. Most valuable items typically stay in Egypt's Cairo Museum. But with special permission, many have traveled worldwide. These are some of the most famous touring treasures.
The first big traveling show, "Tutankhamun Treasures," began in 1961. It featured 34 smaller items made of shining gold and glass. This tour visited many cities across the United States and Canada. It also helped raise money to save old Egyptian monuments. These sites were threatened by the Aswan Dam. Later, a larger version of this show went to Japan and France.
The most famous tour, "The Treasures of Tutankhamun," began in London in 1972. An incredible 1.6 million visitors saw it there. This show later came to the United States from 1976 to 1979. The U.S. tour was the biggest, featuring 53 items. Over eight million people saw these amazing pieces. Money from these shows helped save other old Egyptian places.
